High Seas Original Watercolor & Ink

High Seas
by Michael Squier

For the love of pirates and pirate ships.  First I drew a pen and ink sketch of a pirate ship sailing along the coast.  Then I used watercolor paints to add color.  It is so important to use a waterproof india ink pen so the lines do not bleed when applying the color.  I mix my watercolors wet into wet right on the paper.

This 5x7 inch painting is for sale in our Etsy shop.

ACEOs, what are they and why do you want them.

An ACEO is a miniature piece of art. It is the size of a trading card, 2.5" x 3.5" .  ACEO stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals.  They are meant to be traded and sold as an affordable sample of the artists work.  For the collector of art they are great because you can have  a lot of art in a small space, for not to much money.  For the artist they are a quick and fun way to paint and share our artistic abilities.
At the left is my first ACEO. What do you think?
More ACEOs by my wife and I can be seen at our ETSY site listed at the bottom of this page.

Dodge Dart

I have a 1974 Dodge Dart.  Its been giving me carburetor trouble lately so I swapped the carb yesterday for an older one.  After I put the new (old) one on it had a slight hesitation on acceleration.  I took the main jet out of the original carb to see what size it is.  It has a 63 jet size and the older carb has a 55.  I put in the 63 jet and the hesitation went away.  Now the car runs well. Thats all for now.

Shipwrecked

This is a 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" watercolor painting, printed onto a magnet (not the cheap kind you put through your home printer).

About my blog

I'm new to blogging so bear with me. In my blog my intent is to share my interests and artistic abilities along with some of my wife, Rita's artworks. Some of our art is available at an Etsy site if you are interested, you can see a link at the bottom of this page. At the moment I am interested in painting pirate related scenes and monkey pirates. Yes I said monkey pirates, these are a band of monkeys who are pirates, I think they would make a great kids story if anyone is interested. I will add pictures soon.

My other interests, outside of art, involves collecting things. I seem to have inherited the collecting gene and have to have more than one of anything that interests me. I have a small collection of antique outboard motors. These are interesting in their engineering and design and how they evolved over the years, my collection dates from 1926 to 1968. A lot of changes were made in that time. My most recent obsession is with model engines, remember the old Cox glow engines? My nephew and I have been playing with some that I had as a kid and a few recently purchased motors. They are much easier to store than the outboards.

I will leave it at that for now and go do some work.

Welcome to my blog.

This is my new blog where I will share with the world my artistic and creative side.
